The miracle of Danish temperature control

Last night I was summarily informed by my friends Magnus and Sara that what I believed to be a nice puffy winter jacket is simply not going to cut it. Then they tried to tell me that you don't wear layers in Denmark. This idea fundamentally screws with my northwest sensibilities!!! I'd have thought that winter wear wouldn't be so different here but apparently it's something to do with the humidity that makes things feel way cold here... And the fact that Copenhageners are frankly outside WAY more than Seattleites on the whole. I'll be interested to see if I notice the difference on outdoor time when I'm home for Christmas. Northwest people love our outdoors... but our lives are hermetically sealed in comparison to Copenhagen. So much car time. In general I like the Copenhagen way much better.... but I am not yet endowed with that effortless ability to regulate my temperature that people here seem to unknowingly mastered. Or maybe they just don't care/notice when they're mad sweaty. All I know is... when I step into a grocery store or bus I commence a minutes long de-layering ordeal that inevitably involves tripping or choking on my scarf. Meanwhile everyone else carries on in the fully heated store/bus totally decked out in the most efficient winter coats like it ain't no thing.

Bottom line.... I'm looking forward to the day that I might be as elegant and blasé-cool about winter-wear as people here... but I'm certainly not holding my breath.

In other fashion news! My friend Hege's roommate is obsessed with the American flag. As far as I know she doesn't have particularly string feelings about the US itself but she loves her de Stars and Stripes. Here she is with her America gear:
