Biking in the snow!!! It's alright for now when there's no ice. Lets just say I'm glad I have a helmet.
Grrrrr... I had my first Danish class today and it was so frustrating. In just ranting now, gonna be negative. The teacher was so typical "I'm right your wrong and there's nothing you can do about it". I got in trouble several times for using words that hadn't been put in the board yet. He would literally cut me off when I tried to keep talking. And he lectured one guy for looking at a picture "incorrectly" because the guy described it differently than the teacher wanted us to. Apparently THE WAY to look at a picture is to describe the location first, then the number if people, then details. Always. With all pictures.
He also told me my English was wrong in a way that seemed like an unnecessary power trip. I was right by the way... not that I'm bitter. He was trying to tell me that it's impossible to say that something is sitting on the table if it's not alive.... That's just not true. Ok, if that's how Danish works, great- glad to know it. But it was totally unhelpful to be ridiculed for asking why he was telling people they were wrong to say "the book is sitting on the table" when I was confused about it.
Ok I'm fully aware that I sound really self righteous now. But it was such a waste of my time. My roommate is a pædagog and suggested that I find a new school but also said this is pretty typical Danish language teaching style. I've heard, though, that Københavns Sprogcenter, where I am, is one of the more flexible schools. I'll give it another chance. But I also want to try to test out of the first level because I don't want to just space out through five hours of way too easy class a week.
I'm still really grateful that classes are offered at all! Turns out I have a pretty massive rebellious streak though. And I don't take kindly to being told that I lack attention to detail because I try to take the exercise a step further. I generally won't stand for being condescended to either. Sooo that was a problem. We'll see how it goes! I'll make something work.
